While Glee star Chris Colfer kept his composure when he went on stage to collect the Golden Globe for Best Performance for an Actor in a Supporting Role on Sunday night, he couldn’t hide his excitement about the idea of having Anne Hathaway become part of his television family.

“Anne Hathaway as a lesbian — just that sentence is awesome!” Colfer told TV Guide Magazine at the Fox Golden Globe Awards Post Show Celebration on January 16. “I think she wants to be Kurt’s aunt, so I’m very much looking forward to that.”

Glee producer Brad Falchuk confirmed that Hathaway was the brainchild behind the character and had personally pitched playing the part to the show’s producers.

“Tonight she agented herself into a deal. She came over and talked to Ryan [Murphy] about wanting to come on the show,” Falchuk explained to TV Guide Magazine. “She had a great idea and with someone like her, it’s sort of hard to say no. We generally don’t get excited about guest stars just for the sake of guest stars. But if you have someone like Anne Hathaway or Gwyneth [Paltrow], they’re amazing and we’re happy to have them.”

Falchuk confirmed that when Paltrow returns to Glee, romance will be in the air between her character and Matthew Morrison’s Will. “We really cultivated the idea of her and [Will] having a little fling in the original episode that we did and didn’t have time to finish it off. We’re glad that she can come back and do it.”

In the meantime, the entire Glee crew was walking on air after a very golden night. “It means the world to me,” Colfer said about his big win. “I remember watching the show when I was 8 and printing out the prediction ballots and passing them out to my friends and family who didn’t really care. I am so young, but I’ve wanted one of these for such a long time.”

Co-star Heather Morris showed her support of her young co-star. “We all know Jane [Lynch] is amazing and she deserves [the best supporting actress win], and Chris is amazing, but he’s so young and it’s unreal,” she gushed. “When I saw him go on stage I started screaming.”
